One of the most annoying sources of noise is the sound generated from the underside of the vehicle. Mainly due to the friction between the tire rubber and the road, plus the sound is amplified by the reflection inside the wheel house (fender) of the vehicle. Then there is the engine noise that travels through the firewall between the cabin and the passenger compartment.
